$10 Million Verdict In School-Rape Case
A BROOKLYN jury last week returned a $10 million verdict against the City Board of Education resulting from two separate sexual assaults and rapes of an eighth-grade student within a one-week period in a school stairwell.
The 1989 assaults at I.S. 391 occurred during school hours and involved up to five male students, according to the plaintiff's attorney, Glenn P. Dolan of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman. The claims of negligence included the failure of school personnel to properly monitor the stairwell.
The Board of Education was represented by Assistant Corporation Counsel Jon Norinsberg. Supreme Court Justice Edward Rappaport presided over the trial that ended last Thursday.
